Yoko Koga - Post-Doctoral Fellow/ Lab Mother/ Talented Conversationalist

I moved to New York City in order to join the lab in December, 2005. I love New York City!! I got a dentist degree from Nihon University in Japan. Then, I worked as a resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Tokyo Hospital for 2 years. After that, I entered the graduate school of Medicine in Tokyo University, and got my Ph.D. Everyone wonders, why are you interested in brain research even though you are a dentist? It's a good question!! Because I was interested in regenerative medicine using skin cells through my clinical experience. So, I studied how skin stem cells can be induced to become neuronal cells when I was a graduate student. Moreover I'm very interested in the central nervous system. I've been studying the function of microRNA in the developing nervous system using conditional knockout mice in this lab. In my private life, I like running, dancing, and talking!! I've joined the New York Road Runners, and I am often running in Central Park. So far I've finished the marathon three times. My best time was 3hours 55minutes.
